Noise was the sound of all the people sitting at desks, filing papers, calling officers, and just noise. Many people couldn’t stand the noise made here. That is why many of the workers left the building when they were done with something to go outside and enjoy a single smoke then head back inside. Lots of people would consider the job of a desk soldier to be boring and unhelpful. But they would be wrong, because all of those supply forms they send in go through these men to be processed and get the supplies back to the men. Though no one knows it, these men and women were very hard working people, who had the utmost respect for the soldiers they were helping. Though this was not the job of the man standing outside one of the doors at the end of the hall the deskmen were in.
In front of the door was a desk, at which a blonde woman sat. Wearing a Schutzstaffel uniform. The color frightened any who saw it, and they would have reason too. The soldiers in the SS were trained very well. Many who came in their way, would not live to see another day, or if they did survive, they would have nightmares over what had happened. Many Wehrmacht soldiers would look at the SS with a look of awe, a look of being scared, or even a look of hatred. The man standing outside of the door behind the desk was leaning on the wooden wall behind him. His eyes were closed, as though he was stuck in thought for the time being.
Of those people who walked by the door all they would see was a Wehrmacht major. A man of high rank, but one that stayed quiet. None of the soldiers even noticed he was there, thus the reason none of them were saluting, but that seemed okay for the man there. Draped over his shoulders, with his arms through it, was a long coat. One that stretched to the man’s knees; this of course making him look different and more belonging to the SS, because many would wonder, why was a Wehrmacht officer standing outside of an SS officer’s office. The name on the door was Friedrich Staufen, the name of a SS Colonel, whom had seen much combat in the early part of the war. By no means was he one of the soldiers that sat at the back.
During this time the door opened with a noise you hear when a door opens to get someone’s attention. Holding the door open was the Colonel himself, looking out to the man leaning on the wall. “Sturmbannführer Schneider. Ich werde dich jetzt sehen.” The man called out to the man leaning on the wall. Now it had been said that the man leaning there was indeed Sturmbannführer Lind Schneider; the man whom had led many Wehrmacht to victories where the SS had failed. The reason for this meeting was unknown to anyone but the participants.
When his name was called Lind pushed himself off the wall to go into the colonel’s office. Taking slow steps, he passed through the door, while the colonel looked out to the woman. “Sophie. Keine Menshcen ließ ankommen.” The colonel said as he turned his back and walked back into his office.
In the office was a desk, a cabinet of alcohol, and a filing cabinet. On the walls were a picture of Adolf Hitler, a map of the Eastern Front, a map of the Western Front, and a map of the North African Front. Lind had walked into the room and sat down in the chair without being asked. Many men would normally be scared if they had walked into this room and sat down without being asked. Lind just sat down, knowing he would be asked. He had down this many times. That causing him to know that the man would ask him to sit down once he got in. Of course when Friedrich entered the room he walked around his desk, sitting in his cushioned chair. The cushion squeaked when he sat down.
“Möchtest du etwa Schnapps?” The colonel asked as he pulled out two glasses from off a plate on his desk, and grabbed the Schnapps bottle that was in the center. “Nein, danke. Trinken stumpft dem Animus.” Lind said while smiling at the colonel. This was his way of making sure that he could think properly on all occasions. Alcohol was a drug that would change the way his mind worked. If that were to happen, he might not be able to gain the advantage he gets normally.
“Lind. Warum ist du hier?” The colonel asked after he poured himself a glass of Schnapps, and taking a sip, the sound of his lips slapping together repeated in Lind’s mind. “Ich bin hier aufgrund dich.” Lind replied to the colonel as he leaned forward to look at the colonel. “Wir sind hier für den Anlange aus einer Kompanie für dir.“ The colonel said openly. „Die Kompaniemitglieder wird dich auserwählen.“ He added again. This information was new to Lind. He still had no idea what this unit was for, or why it was for him. But, he liked the idea of picking all the members to his unit, the higher command would have no say in where to put recruits, unless of course this unit needed them.
“Herr Kommandant. Danke für der Auszeichnung.” Lind replied as he got up to leave. But his gut told he to turn around and face the colonel. “Sturmbannführer. Du antwortest nur zu mich.” The man stated only to open his mouth for another few words. “Auch, die Kompanie heißt Sonderkommando Sachverständige oder, Sonderkommando S. Und dein Deckname ist Reißzahnkonig.” The colonel finally stated. With that last bit of knowledge, Lind understood what the unit was for. The group would be fighting the Allies using any means necessary to win. This awesome power had been given to Lind to show the strength of soldiers. “Danke Herr Kommandant.” Lind said as he opened the door and smiled at the commander to show his appreciation. He said his codename again, and thought about it. Fang King, the title given to one who tears and slices his way through anything. A good codename for me in this unit, he thought.
Upon exiting the door, the noise of the building began to get back at him. The woman sitting at the desk was still working, though this time she was using a typewriter. The sound of which went even more so into Lind’s ears. He could process a room just by hearing it, and of course so could most experienced soldiers. But, no one had the same step as Lind as he walked through the room, his new burden on his shoulders, and it seemed as though the burden was not too heavy because he walked tall with this new honor within him.
The people at desks did not notice him as he continued walking through the hall back to the door. With pushing open the door, the early winter sky was already changing. The great coat that Lind had would protect him from much of this, as he continued walking to the next building over. The Wehrmacht command building, where he could get access to any of the files that suited his needs. The man continued walking along the street when he noticed that a group of soldiers were surrounding two men who were fighting over something.
Lind liked watching these events, because it showed him what a trained human can do to another trained human, also to show the weaknesses of the German soldier. No officers would come intervene in this, because they were most likely doing the same as Lind, just watching. Also, this was a good time to let it happen, because the stress of the camp had been building up and up, and with this fight, a small part of it would be release.
Sometime before the two fighters killed each other, Lind would probably step in to break up the fight, but until then, he would just wait.
