Scenario: You are in the middle of two German MG42's and have nothing but a grenade and bolt action rifle. There are 4 soldiers 1 in each nest and one one each side of you with MP40's. What would your character do? How would he respond?
(( Kindof long. Sorry. =P ))
Walter lay as low to the ground as he could, rifle half under him and half ahead of him. One nest had seen him and fired on him. He ran for a couple seconds, then pretended to fall down dead. The second nest also opened fire on him, but both weapon placements fired wide. He hoped they would pass him off as dead.
Slowly, Private Rayfett reached down to his belt and quietly unclipped his hand grenade from his belt. If he could only get close enough to that first nest...
With the grenade in his left hand and his rifle in his right, Walter began to slowly inch towards the closer MG42 - the one on the left.
After five slow and agonizing minutes, Walter froze again. He was now within throwing range of the gun placement. Both machine guns had apparently forgotten about him, otherwise he wouldn't've gotten this far. His face hardened with determination and he leapt up, pulling the pin on the grenade.
With a shout he hurled the explosive into the nest. Both MG42s opened fire on him and Rayfett dove down again. An explosion ensued and two of the four Nazis were down. Spouts of dirt suddenly shot up as the second MG42 began firing on him.
Walter cringed as four bullets hit uncomfortably close to his face. After the dirt finished raining down on his helmet, he got up again, running towards the smoking nest ahead of him. Machine gun fire could be heard behind him but so far he hadn't been hit.
He leaped up and landed in the nest, safe from the gunfire. He looked around him and grimaced. The grenade had done its work. Two mutilated bodies lay on both sides of the MG42. Walter grabbed one of them by the back of his torn grey trench coat and pulled him away from the machine gun.
Now what? Walter thought. The second Nazi gun was still firing on him, but he was safe in the nest. Private Rayfett's gaze rested on the MG42 in front of him.
"Maybe it still works..." Walter said aloud to himself. Immediately he went to work to find out. It was slightly blackened from the grenade, but it seemed to work alright. He pulled back on the loading mechanism and checked the ammo belt. If only he had another man here with him.
"Ah, what the heck." He sighted down the barrel towards the blazing MG42 down across from him. The ammo belt would supply itself for a couple moments at least. He pulled the trigger, and the weapon blazed to life. Bullets flew down at the Nazis, and he scored at least one hit. Bullets ripped over the top of the nest and one punctured the gunner's helmet and he keeled out of view. Walter squeezed the trigger again, and a few more bullets were fired, but then the gun jammed, not having a second man to manage the ammo. Walter grabbed his rifle and leapt out of the nest, running flat out towards the other nest. The last Nazi appeared, aiming a rifle at him. He fired and ducked down again. Walter dove down as the bullet whizzed clear of him. He got up fired back. As he continued to run, he reloaded the rifle. The Nazi appeared again, and this time Walter fired first. The Nazi ducked down again at the sound of the shot.
Walter was too close now to reload. He leapt towards the nest and fell towards the Nazi. He held his rifle out in front of him, intending to use it as a club. The Nazi raised his rifle, intending to shoot the young private, but Walter landed on him before he could squeeze the trigger. They rolled over in a fierce grapple. Walter reached for his knife, and the Nazi tried to stop him. Letting go of his rifle completely, Walter swung a punch at his opponent with his left hand, scoring a hit directly in the nose. The Nazi was stunned for a moment, allowing Walter to draw his knife. He swung it at the Nazi's chest, and the blade cut through the fabric, drawing blood. The Nazi's face contorted in pain and he shoved Walter off of him. Both men grabbed their rifles. The Nazi brought his up to bear first. Walter froze, looking the Nazi in the eyes, his hands on the rifle he grabbed. The Nazi grinned and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. His grin disappeared as he realized he had Walter's rifle, and it needed to be reloaded. Walter raised his rifle - or rather the Nazi's rifle - and fired. At point blank range, the bullet tore right through the Nazi's body and propelled him dead into the ground. Walter remained where he was for a time, recovering from the episode. He had just taken out two Nazi gun placements... all by himself.
(( Again, it's very long, and I'm sorry. But that's the way it turned out so... ))
