Writing Sample:
Scenario: You are in the middle of two German MG42's and have nothing but a grenade and bolt action rifle. There are 4 soldiers 1 in each nest and one on each side of you with MP40's. What would your character do? How would he respond?
Private Williams was alone in a fox hole and surrounded by Germans. His friend lay dead next to him, from the German machine-gun that was covering the hole. He held his Enfield rifle close to his body as he quietly pulled the bolt open and pulled out a stripper clip. He slowly pushed ten bullets into the rifle and closed the bolt. He then put his head up to survey the situation and decided a bit of trickery was needed.
He yelled in the loudest German he could muster, “Feureinstellung,” cease fire. He pulled out the pineapple grenade in his pocket, pulled the pin, and let the safety handle loose. He cooked the grenade and threw it into one of the German machine-gun nests which subsequently blew up the German gunners. Private Williams knew this would distract the Germans, so he put his head up and pointed his rifle out the German to his right and fired. The German fell to the ground, dead.
Private Williams got back in the fox hole and waited for the other German to come and investigate the hole. As Private Williams expected, the German came and ran into a bullet, dropping his MP-40 and falling lifelessly to the ground. The German was still alive, Private Williams saw, as he pulled out his jump knife and slit the enemy’s throat. He then picked up the MP-40 and put a new clip in. He had 32 rounds to kill the last German machine-gunners. He decided that surprise was his only chance now since he was almost sure the gunners had seen their comrades fall.
Private Williams stood up and ran to the side and then directly at the machine-gunners, finally letting loose the 9mm bullets in the MP-40 and killing the gunner. To add insult to injury, Private Williams picked up a forgotten German grenade and threw it into the last machine gun nest as he left into the forest line, destroying the enemy weaponry and making the world a better place ((sort of)).
