Sargent James Kennith and the survivng members of Seille of the squad from D Company were sitting around a warm fire at the allied HQ near Normandy. Jimmy had various shrapnel wounds that were healing nicely. For the first time in days, he was able to take a shower and get a hot meal. At the moment he was working hard on cleaning his Browning Automatic Rifle. He had nearly finished when he saw replacements being directed over, there were six of them, all privates. 'Hey boys, we got some replacements coming in. Don't be to hard on 'em." he said in his usual smooth voice.
Jimmy took a little time off of cleaning his weapon to take a bite of the warm soup that was his dinner. It had been prepared by a corporal in his platoon. The Corporal had shot two deers in the woods with his M! and prepared it with some water and potatoes from a nearby garden. The soup was more like a stew, but Jimmy was never one for technical words. He returned to his Browning and finished cleaning it. He put it back together and took out a cigarette. He lit it and took a drag. He slid the magazine in it and slid back the lever. Jimmy took it off safety and proceeded to the jerry rigged firing range. The Sargent shot the gun and it made a perfect crack-crack-crack sound as it bursted three rounds.
James sat back down at his spot by the fire and finished his cigarette. He then finished his soup and kicked back as one of the corporals was showing the replacements the ropes.
