"3,2,1, kick it!"
VROOOOOMMM!!!The douglas DC-3 flew with its high-powered engines over the polish town, and about fifteen american troopers of the 101st airborne division jumped out.
David-Francois Chatrousse was one of them. jumping out, holding onto his shades with one hand, holding onto his cigarette with the other, he was the last to jump.
No enemy flak fire.
It was a single plane, no official US military operation. The french and english managed to scrape together some money and 'borrow' some american troops for some missions to sabotage the Reich from the inside a bit and regroup with the rest of the US or soviet troops. David-Francois had been recommended as a squad leader for his 'talents' they said, but he had never been much of a team player, even though he was more than able to lead competitively.
The soldiers landed outside the small town, with low visibility conditions. The pilots had to calculate the position over the map extensively to get the drop point right.
They planned to have the soldiers drop down right in the middle of town, but alas, wind conditions were always pesky, so the soldiers ended up being dropped to the North-East, at the outskirts of the peaceful town. No problem!
The group of 15 was not too widespread. David-Francois had told them to keep together, back on the plane, so they did, and that made the sunglasses-wearing frenchy quite proud.
Lights were on in the town. Peaceful with all the beautiful white snow falling, David-Francois would rather have a snowball fight than shoot with the firearms they had.
Ten were armed with M1 Garands, the remaining 5 had Thompsons. Little troop numbers, but if used well capable of taking over a fortress. The only key was to make use of all the potential, which would be difficult both because of the volatile skill common in US troops at the time, and because of the reduced visibility.
The fifteen grouped around in a circle in the woods all around the town. It was dark, so they had to use whatever they had to illuminate without catching too much of an eye, so no flares. Cigarette lighters would do, and David had one while having his smoke.
"Allright gentlemen, Phase one: Panning. Primari objective I, get in this town eliminate any axis troops and see if we can radio in any colleagues to declare this area secure for future use. Then proceed to next town. We aren't supposed to take any prisoners according to those big heads over us, but I'll close one of my two eyes and allow any foe to surrender. I'm not fond of war crime, and they say Poland has got its share of death camps. Mind you, I'd see if we could smack in liberating a camp or two in our path in case we don't get picked up by a plane, which is rather likely, because with all this snow we won't have any clean airstrip unless we capture one from the nazis. All clear as of now?"
The soldiers nodded. David-Francois told them not to be overly pompous or shout 'sir yes sir' all the time because it attracted attention he didn't want to have. All his 'resistance' mumbo-jumbo he talked about in the plane to his subordinates happened to end up in the soldier's heads after all.
"Okay gents, we've got us a map, and our landing point was supposed to be the church. I intentionally told the pilots to calculate a bit adrift because british intelligence always mentions nazis using churches as meeting places or HQs whenever there ain't a police HQ because of the size of the building and the architecture. I assume the brits are right, because if you guys would see my revolver here, I happen to be fond of it."
A chuckle or two was heard in the group as David-Francois pulled out a map of the area, folded it out open and drew a big circle with a pencil right around the church and the surrounding area, as well as an x to where the pilots made them land.
"Okay kiddos, here's the deal. We get in there, snoop around, if we spot nazis we make sure not to start shooting madly but we check if there are any others before revealing our position. We don't have any silencers on our guns like secret spies do, so buckle up. Directive A, surround the church. Means: you five with the garands, you head up to the north of it in the long building along this street here, the Wilhelmstraße. You're team N. the remaining five with the garands, you position yourself in the alleyways surrounded by the three streets here, to the east of the church, next to that nice bakery: Mönchweg, Eichenfelderstraße, and the Gottfried-eberstraße. Yer group C, C stands for circle. You with the tommies, you follow me, we're group M, we'll stay close to group C, but see if we can dash over to the church and storm in with tommy guns and 'nades. Remember though, it could be that the germans aren't in here, and all we find in the church are old grandmas with their children having mass and hoping for this merciless, shitlike war to end.
Rule number one, shoot responsibly and if you need to. That's enough. We might be expendable to those up in their offices, but we aren't expendable to each other. Just like freedom fighters. Okay gents, I'll give you one minute to turn off your cigarettes, then I'll fold the map and we'll go. When all is secure we'll meet up at the church.
One minute passed, and David-Francois folded the map.
Off they ran, all in delta formation (David had told them to move so, for whatever reason they didn't know, but they followed orders) and entered the little town.
[[OOC: Okay, since the other thread is currently in stasis (harhar, dead space) I'll hop in here, counting this thread here as the battle following the first my character partecipates in (see 'parachute ambush in the France thread. I hope my posting is okay.
Nikki, I smacked up a map on my part, I couldn't help my silly perfectionism ^^;
My units are not in position yet, but you may start moving around as well. Just as decided, the 'mericans will enter the immediate area from the North-East.
Go ahead, let's get this game rollin'!]]
