Character History:
Robert was born in 1920 in West Islip, New York. His parents hadn't lost that much money when the Stock Market crashed, but they still had little money. Robert and his brothers planned on joining the military so that they could have some money and food to eat. Despite his friends and family, life continued.Writing Sample:
Robert enjoyed living in the suburbs throughout his teens, but he craved excitement and adventure. His older brother, Thomas, had joined the Navy when Robert was 16 (in the year 1936), and he was enticed to join the military as well.
However, when Robert went to enlist when he was 18, his parents refused. His father had been in WWI, and told him that a war was bound to break out in Europe again and that he didn't want to see his son go off to fight and get killed. Out of respect for his parents, he did as they said.
But then the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, and Robert's brother Thomas was killed in the attack. Robert then enlisted in the US Army at the age of 21, despite his parents refusal. When he enlisted, a recruiter asked him if he wanted to join the paratroopers, a elite unit of infantryman in the Army.
Robert accepted the offer, and went through basic training at Camp Toccoa with the rest of the 101st Airborne Division. He did extremely well in basic training, and was his platoon's best marksman. Now 24 years old, he is prepared to fight against the soldiers of the Axis powers till the end.
Robert slowly advanced through the forest. He had just landed on the outskirts of the forest and he had been trying to locate his platoon's rendezvous point. As he walked along, he noticed things were extremely quiet.Approved/Denied?: Approved
He shouldered his M1 Garand and looked around to see if someone was following him. He thought he saw movement to his right, and turned to see a deer, eating some grass. Suddenly, a bullet flew past his helmet and hit the tree next to him. He spun around to see squad of 9 german soldiers heading towards him, firing as they ran.
Robert quickly took aim and fired several shots at the germans and saw two of them fall over dead before he hid behind a nearby tree. A grabbed one of his Mk. 2 grenades, pulled the pin, and threw it in the german's direction before taking cover again.
He heard several shouts and screams and everything was quiet again. Robert reloaded his M1 and peered around the tree to see that the grenade had killed 2 more of the germans. The remaining five had either been knocked down or were helping their comrades get back up.
Robert then killed the remaining germans before running in the direction of the rendezvous point. He didn't know if there were anymore germans in the area, but he knew that his platoon couldn't be that far away.
