"Three minutes" someone shouted as the landing craft Daniel was on rocked as enemy artillery came down all around them. Daniel was a little nervous, this was his first actual amphibious assualt, sure he fought the Japs, but he didn't have to charge head first into their machine gun fire.
The ramp lowered, "GO GO GO" a sergeant shouted, a bullet impacted in the sergeant's throat, blood spraying all over the place. Daniel ran out of the landing craft into knee deep water, he raised the gun above his head and kept on moving towards the beach, marines dropping all around him as the water turned a faded red from all the blood. Daniel got to the beach, he threw himself behind a fallen tree log, he raised his M1941 and started firing, not so much as trying to ctually hit the enemy but to lay down some supressive fire. Daniel ducked behind the log as a flurry of automatic gun fire pinged of the log. Another marine threw himself down right next to Daniel, a Sergeamt. "Shit, we're the hell is everyone else?" the ergeant asked the Marine, "I'm it" Daniel replied. "For Christs sake's..." the sergeant was saying as a grenade went off, kicking up a large portion of sand. "We need to radio in the big guns, other wise we're as good as dead" the sergeant yelled over the gunfire. "Give me some covering fire" the sergeant said, as the sergeant stood up from his cover and ran towards a set of marines a good thirty something feet away, Daniel crouched onto his right knee, raising his M1941, sighting up a target. Daniel fired, the sniper he was aiming at fell off the tree branch and into the dirt, Daniel quickly aimed his M1941 at another Jap sniper, he pulled the triger, the sniper fell backwards of the branch. The sergeant slid into cover with the marines, and Daniel ducked back down behind cover.
Several loud thumps could be heard, then the entire jungle infront of daniel seemed to shake as artillery blast after artillery blast impacted the Jap forces holding the beach perimeter. The barrage lasted for fifteen minutes, once the guns were silenced, everything else grew silent.
Daniel stood up and walked towards the sereant, who was alking towards Daniel. "We're going to fan out, and sweep the jungle, we're looking for enemy installations, Anti-aircraft gun, or costal guns. Stay low and stay quiet, we'll all link up here" the sergeant said as he pointed at a small hill on a map, it was about a quarter of a mile from the beach, so it wasn't a long hump, but still the jungle gave Daniel the creeps. The artillery barrage was supposed to have taken out all the Japs, but Daniel didn't believe that for a second.
Daniel started off into th jungle, slowly moving, sweeping his M1941 infront of him, even a good eighty feet in and he already felt like someone was watching him. The Japs hid in the tree tops, or in the ground, and that made it all the spookier, having no idea where your enemy is. Several beads of sweat trickled down Daniel's face, everything was silent, but Daniel saw movement in a bush near by, he slowly crept towards the bush, he raised his gun, and just as he was about to fire a pig ran out, squealing. Daniel felt a wave of relief wash over him, he kept on moving, taking in all the strange sounds.
Daniel was half way to the clearing, and so far so good, but that feeling of bein watched felt even stronger, like someone was right behind him, it was starting freak daniel out. Daniel picked up the pace, now walking towards the clearing, and still that feeling followed him. Daniel stopped and turned around sweeping the tree line, nothing, he kept on moving. Finally Daniel spotted the clearing, he could see the end of this nightmarish jungle finally coming to an end. Daniel practically ran out, the sergeant was standing at the base of the hill with four other marines, "'bout time you get here" the sergeant said, Daniel didn't say anything, "You find any Japs?" the sereant asked, "no just a pig" Daniel replied as he tried to smile.
"Alright were moving out, got to go relieve some pressure off an engineering unit at one of the landing sites" the sergeant said as he waved the marines onward, Daniel took point on this one.
