It was June, June 13th to be exact, 3rd Sqaud of 2nd platoon, D-Company had been sent to clear a small outpost along with 2nd and an M8 Armored Car. Reports said that german resistance was to be minimal. When the small force arrived they decided to move around and attack them from behind. They scouted out the weak points. Sgt. Hamilton turned around and gave the motion to move forward, but, as they did, two MG42s that had been concealed opened fire and killed 6 of the 20 men and wounded two. Then tanks rolled through buildings to the right, Panthers to be exact, and they wiped out the M8. Then they opened machine gun fire on the rest of the units. Seven men were killed and the last three were taken prisoner.

It was about 0645 hours, Pvt. McDiffett, who was unconcious at the time, began to stir. He thought in his mind as his head was throbbing 'What happened?' He looked around, still keeping low, just in case the german and duty noticed movement. To his right he saw a corporol from 2nd squad, and to his right was the Sgt. who led the attack, also from 2nd squad. At that moment a german oficer walked in and went to each of them in order and asked them their ranks in bad english, when he got to the Sgt. he pulled him into a secluded room, and interogated him, when the Sgt. wouldn't cave he was killed, then they killed the corporol. A though ran through McDiffett's head, 'I could make a run for it while they are busy with the Cpl.' He worked his way to his knees, and bolted up rushing through the door, running to his right and diving into a line of shrubs, he looked behind him and saw a barbwire fence and machine gun nests next to it. 'Man, that ways blocked.' He thought for a minute, 'I could throw a rock to the left of the nests and when they check it out, I could climb through the fence(spaced out like separating farms, not military fencing). He picked up a good sized rock, and chucked it a good distance to the right. Will moved quickly and quietly to the fence but he accidently hit the fence going through it and it made noise, the germans rushed back over and started shooting just as he got passed the treeline.
