Alright all, this is the battle thread for "Waltz in the Woods." If you have any questions pertaining to the map send them to me in a PM. Remember your objective for the mission. In the mod-marking, I am being insanely realistic. If you plan on using grenades, I will be modding to a 4 second fuse. So if you hold it for 4 seconds or more, I will moderate it as though the grenade exploded in your hand. The map for your edittingPosting order is as follows: Wiktor Boguslaw Heydrich Sechtl Daniel Steinert Erwin Rommel The first round of posts will be neutral, and after that the posts will be hostile. I will be making a mod-mark at the end of the neutral round, and then a mod-mark after every hostile post so there are accurate markings.

Wikor leaned against a tree feeling the tough bark on his back as he slowly shifted his feet while deep in though. He was everything but scared at this moment, this was going to be his first sight of action in his military carrier. He studied his surroundings and cursed the clouds and rain, it will be almost impossible to spot the enemy in this weather. He glanced over at Daniel Steinert, his fellow soldier for this battle. I hope this man will be ready for combat, I have a feeling this won’t be an easy battle.
Wiktor walked toward Daniel and told him to assemble his platoon as Wiktor prepared for the briefing before the battle. As soon as the men were assembled he began. “I am Wiktor Boguslaw, 2nd Lieutenant of the 69th armored division. I have been sent here to inform you on the task at hand, as well as lend aid to the upcoming battle. We have been sent to these woods to clear out an enemy platoon sighted in the area. We are not sure why there are here, but that doesn’t matter, we just want them out. Our Intel also shows that they have around the same force as we do, so this will be an even fight, any side can win. This weather will severely limit your sight, so be on the lookout at all times, ambush will always be a possibility. Go ahead and prepare for the battle, further orders will be sent later.”
Wiktor walked over to Daniel as the platoon spread out and began organizing weaponry and equipment. “Let the men rest for now, but on my signal I want you to send four men into the house and then send the other six to the left side of the house in the foliage, not too far away from the house though, that is as much as I can say at this moment, we must now wait for the enemy to act on their behalf.” Witor walked over to a nearby rock and sat down on it and began preparing his M1 as well as mentally bracing for the battle ahead.

The smell of the field, the cold breeze breaking through the tree's gave out consistent moans all over the place. He looked at the ten men assembled in front of him, everyone with cold looks on their faces. He knew half of them didn't want to be here and half of them was yearning for a fight. Personally, he never liked France. The inexperience yet cunning officer had seen too much slaughter here. France was being taken too easily, he knew the more pressure that they had to defend the more passionate that they would be defending their homeland. He held up one finger to his nose and blew through the other fiercely, forcing the airflow to continue. He sighed as he looked upwards to the gray sky. Scanning around the area he hoped to find something, anything that could prove beneficial. He knew very little about the lay of the land in this area, there was a building and then a trench. He had also been informed that there were foxholes in the area that they could make use of. Obviously a defensive approach would be of more use since he didn't really even know if the enemy is present in this area. He skipped through the sea of privates as he tried to identify the corporal. Erwin Rommel, Eh? He wondered over the name for a while before approaching him from behind and softly called him. He had to make ready for something... it is expected that the enemy will be unexpected. He rubbed his chin for awhile and the men noticed the two superiors together and stiffened up. He looked at Erwin with cold eyes, ' 'Corporal. We need to search and destroy the enemy, the sooner the better. The weather will not bode well for us if it rains. I want you to take three men and travel south, preferably as quietly as you can, I want to know more first. Tell your men to be careful. We need to secure our flanks to attack before we make a move but... don't wonder off too far. I will handle the situation here, hopefully we can all get out unscathed.''Taking his gun from his back he made sure it was working, checked everything he could. He grinned as he saw the men enter the trenches, he could see the slight drizzle if turned into rain could lead to the trench being flooded. He noted himself about that and entered the trenches himself. He tried his binoculars to try to see anything to no avail. He looked back and saw the foxholes he was told about, thinking he knew there would be more forward and he had to use them to gain a upper hand. He picked four men with a tap of the arm and climbed out of the trench, despite only being a few feet from where the building was he made the men crouch and moved east until he could spot a foxhole. One was found relatively close and one person was asked to jump in it. They all waited in patience while he got himself prepared inside it. As soon as he finished he prompted the men to move again splitting them up and asked them to find any more. To his luck, he found one more a short distance to the north-east of where the first one was, another man was sent in. Heydrich was feeling too vulnerable in the open even with the forest's cover he quickly asked the spare two men to follow him back to the trenches. Back in the trench he jumped looking around and counted five men. Good enough, he had received information that the enemy didn't have much men either but one should always accept the worst. He tried aiming his sights down from above the trenches, satisfied he went back. all he had to now was to attack or be attacked. Which one he did not know, but one had to be done sooner or later. He ordered one person to go into the foxhole south of the house to make sure he had a good sight of the south. He grabbed the attention of the men, '' Men. Front and center, this is your new home. Protect it for the glory of the Reich...''___________________________________________________

The weather was moderate, and it was the first time Daniel would come face to face with the enemy. the mission was simple; go in, clear out any resistance, and come out. Nothing to it. However what he learned from his combat jump to blow up some turbines and rescue some scientists was that any information from command was unreliable, so he had to prepare for the worst.
Wikor walked over to Daniel and said "Looks like an ambush, so get your men in order." Daniel agreed and told his men to huddle up. "Alright I want safeties off, weapons loaded, and everyone alert" "Oh, and don't give this armor officer too much trouble"
He watched as his squad checked each other's equipment, flipped off safeties, and other various things. He himself loaded his carbine, and quietly prepped two bundles of TNT, careful to make sire that the detonator was not hooked up. "Alright you will be taking orders from me, and LT. Wikor, he has priority over me, so do as he says." He heard "alright" in a unified response.
"Just do your job, and this whole thing will be over sooner" Daniel turned to Wikor and said "I do think your right, the place is a perfect ambush area, so we better keep on our toes. Respectfully I hope you know what your doing sir"

OOC:As a sniper I am allowed to maintain my secrecy until the moderator fees my position has been compromised so I have sent a map to the moderator revealing my location. Although my two NPC's are not hidden.
Rommel sat looking up at the gray sky, wondering if the rain would ever stop. He was scanning the timber ahead of him, looking for enemy activity. He wondered if there was any enemy in the area. Rommel hadn't seen battle for over a month and had begun to like, it then out of no where came the orders to move in. This was sad news, beings his platoon had been slaughtered around a month ago, and he had 10 new replacements who hadn't seen battle before.
Replacements were always people he despised, just because of their, "I ain't never gonna die" attitude. Sadly most of them don't make it very long with that attitude. He watched as his commanding officer began positioning men. Moments later he was asked to take three men and scout south. He began to think how he was supposed to keep quite and remain a sniper with three men. He didn't question his commander's orders and began slowly creeping south.
He checked his sniper and MP40 making sure both were ready to go, they were. The weather was nasty they couldn't see very far at all. They slowly made there way through the first two trees in front of the group and around the house. They had come to a huge open meadow from which they could see quite some distance. He could faintly see a foxhole ahead and ordered that two of the soldiers take watch from it. Two of them nodded their heads and crept over, quietly sliding into the muddy hole. Giving a thumbs up that hey were ready.
Rommel took the remaining soldier and told him that he would be his spotter. Rommel gave him the gear he had saved from his spotter who had been KIA. Set some basic ground rues and they began to take their position.

Moderation Post
Wiktor Boguslaw -You are sitting in the area where the Allies have started.
Daniel Steinert
-Your men are ready for battle and are watching their surroundings for any movement. You yourself is standing next to Wiktor.
Heydrich Sechtl
-Your men have successfully been put in their positions, and due to your speech, they feel as though they will fight until they all are dead. They are ready to protect the Reich.
Erwin Rommel
-You are well hidden due to your ghillie suit. The men around you have been stationed and waiting for your call. -Also where did you get the MP40, the MP40 does not show up in your profile so because of that, please continue this battle as though you do not have one. -Again, I don't believe you bought a spotter, nor is one of Heydrich's men a spotter. So that "spotter" of yours is still armed with the standard weapons of an Axis soldier.img11.imageshack.us/img11/218/waltzinthewoodsmodmark1.gif

Wiktor stood for a moment feeling the cold rain dripping down his uniform. All of a sudden a cold breeze blew through taking him out of deep thought; it was time to act against the enemy. He began forming a strategy as soon as he turned to face Daniel and the rest of the men.
“Daniel, I want you to send four men and yourself to secure the house, use anything inside for cover, and don’t stand openly in front of the windows, it will just give away your position. Try to barricade the western door so the enemy may not advance through it, and by god watch out for grenades. But before you do that position the other six in foxholes and by trees for cover. I want these men not too far away from the house, but not near enough that they are easily spotted. Stealth is a must and do not give away your positions until they are compromised. One last thing, I believe there is a trench in front of the house, you may move your men up there but that is your choice.”
Wiktor did not wait for a reply as he walked away and silently loaded a clip into his M1 Garand. He crawled up to the eastern side of the house and then stopped and listened. After hearing nothing he continued to the edge of the wall and peered out. Due to the thick foliage he could not see anything and returned to his original place by the door. He glanced at Daniel to make sure he was positioning the men accordingly to the plan that was laid out.
Wiktor glanced at the weather worn walls of this small cottage and wondered how much cover this could really supply them, but it was the best they had. Wiktor stood up and quietly opened the door as he beckoned Daniel to follow.

He stared at the endless fill of tree's covering the area in front of him, the shades of green was somewhat overwhelming. He shivered a little in the cold air and he looked down to see water has been filling the trench slowly, drip by drip. Although it was no more than a few centimeters from the ground. He looked to his side and tapped the man next to him and gestured the orders to get out, the other men looked at the soldier and started to follow, Heydrich didn't even utter a word but the soldiers knew what to do perfectly. He moved up with the five men and stood in front of the door, waiting for a while he opened the door slowly. Going inside the room he observed the small building. Four windows and two doors. He spoke slowly, ''Lukas, Gerald man the south and the east window, keep your head down. Ralf go get the man in the foxhole outside the building, and Dirk stay near me at all times'' They all grunted in agreement complimented by nodding heads. Heydrich grinned slyly at the men as they got into position. He walked out of the room accompanied by his guard and the man sent to fetch the man in the foxhole below the house. He waited patiently as three men were now in front of him. He thought for awhile if his plan was going to work or not. He was always more of a pessimist, it was a good thing. He always expected the worse. He sent Dirk to get the man in the furthest foxhole, he knew he was changing his plans drastically but he wanted to out of here before nightfall, hopefully triumphant. He looked back to check the two guards peeping secretly out the window to spot any attackers, good. Next he looked at the other guard at the other foxhole to the east. What was the use of being holed inside the ground. He made his decision and asked the two men to get the man. The three men assembled outside the house looking for new orders, Heydrich spoke to them. Seriousness was burning from his dark blue eyes while he spoke, ''I am taking a risk.'' He stopped, hesitating. ''I chose you men to go out and explore, find the enemy. Now listen closely. If you see the men, but sure that they haven't spotted you try to shoot at them and run back before they realize it, if they find you run back and lure them back here, shout with the top of your lungs if you can't get rid of them. I trust you men. I will be ready for you people.'' He looked as the men walked away and walked back into the house. ___________________________________________

Daniel said "alright I want you two to go North of the house, one man to a tree, and stay close to the building, but still in cover. I want you three to the South of the building, one man to a tree, and one in the foxhole near the building. You four get inside the building, and find something to barricade the west door, keep away from the windows, and just watch out for enemies. You with Wikor, I don't want you to let him get more than 5 feet away from you, keep our armor guest safe, and follow his direct orders except leave him." "Oh, and keep low we have heard sniper activity in the area, don't get shot, or seen. Also, keep out of the trench at all costs"
Daniel took out his detonator, and placed it in a dry spot on the building side next to Wiktor, but not in the doorway. He didn't hook up the cable but left one end next to the "boom box" and ran the spool with him, covering it as he went. He and the private crawled into the trench, and he say the other men get into position. All was dead quiet, it seemed like it was only him and nature.
He placed three charges of TNT in the trench; one on each end, and one dead center, making sure that he never was visible above the trench. He silently rigged up the wiring and made sure it was set to go, and then covered it all with dirt, mud, leaves, and twigs, but not to odious. He then crawled back to Wilktor checking the line as he went back. He stood up once he was covered by the building, hooked up the detonator, and placed it back down. "What do we do now Lt.?"

Rommel had been sitting for quite some time. He had still been fiddling with his camouflage making sure he was never to be seen. He would constantly scan the battle area with his cold, scope looking for the slightest movement, for fear there could be another sniper lurking about.
He was trying to think of the best plan. He was having a hard time coming up with something logical that would work, in this situation. He finally made a critical decision. He ordered all the men to retreat back to their commander Heydrich, and report to him for orders, on where they were to position them selves.
Rommel had decided that he was going in on his own. The men silently nodded, and trotted off into the fog towards, their position. Rommel slowly began crawling across an open patch of grass. Keeping as low as he could in the grass. Fortunately there was the for which was to his advantage. Although it could choose to lift anytime. So no matter what he kept is silence. Finally, he had made it across the open meadow and to a tree. There he began camouflaging himself even more, making him blend in better with his surroundings.
He was ready, now all he needed was for the fog to lift, and he could begin his normal task of sniping.
OOC:I will send the map to the moderator again. Although, if I am right the map is supposed to be updated AFTER EVERY post, unless of course there is no movement in their post. Though so far there has been.

Mod Mark
Sorry all I have not been keeping up with mod-marks. Hopefully I will do better, but back to the mission at hand. Also, these mod marks will get longer once there is some action.
Heydrich Sechtl- Your men have followed your orders to the word. The patrol is moving forward toward the enemy side.
Daniel Steinert- Your explosives have been set up. (Is any of your wiring going through a window or a door?) All three explosives have been set, and all three are on the same wiring and will blow up at the same time. Also, you have no more explosives.
Erwin Rommel-The three men following have gotten back to Heydrich without incident. (I have not gotten the map back from you.) Your ghilie suit adds extra camouflage to you.
WEATHER UPDATE: It has started to rain, and the fog is lifting.img269.imageshack.us/img269/738/waltzinthewoodsmodmark2.gif

Wiktor turned around as he heard approaching footsteps echoing on the wood floor. It was an allied soldier approaching him who quickly informed him that it was his job to make sure Wiktor was protected in the upcoming engagement. Wiktor acknowledged this with a smile and turned back toward the window he was glancing out at. Technician doesn’t want me to get hurt, must be worried that if something happens to me it will automatically be viewed as his “fault”.Wiktor continued to look outside at the dense woodland terrain. The fog is lifting, that won’t be good for our cover, but maybe we will be able to spot the enemy.
Wiktor turned toward and walked over to where Daniel was currently setting up his TNT charges. “Daniel, send one more man toward our right flank from inside this house, I don’t like how weak we are there, our how many men we have in here. Also, any sign of enemy movement from your men? This dead silence isn’t going well, could mean there sneaking up on us, or that Intel is wrong and there are no Germans here.” Wiktor began walking about checking the barricade on the west door as well as the interior of the house in general. Everything seems in order, now it’s time for one of us to make a move.
Wiktor walked over to each individual soldier and prompted them to lay low and avoid fully showing themselves in the windows. Finally he walked over and sat himself down in a chair on the east wall as he began thinking about the past hour. No sign of enemy activity, were are they?

He noticed the rain dropping down more occasionally then usual and lifted his hand in the air to feel the rain. He looked around and saw the fog lifting slowly. Good. It'll make things all the more easier for Erwin, he just hoped the sniper could do without a spotter, but then again in these surroundings it would be better to work alone since the vegetation would prove hard for the spotter to do his job anyway. He knew he needed to prepare some sort of defense to make the area come in favor for them. He peered over the left of someone calling for him. It was the men sent with Erwin, good. That must mean he must have settled down. He wondered for a second where the enemy would be. East, south, north or west. He knew right and behind him were really improbable since he arrived from there. He grinned as he praised himself for sending the patrol to the best possible direction at least for him. Now his hope was that they would fulfill their orders. Spot the enemy, come back and if possible lure them back slowly. He waited for the men to get back and planned in his mind the perfect positions for them to be in. Alright. He had four men without any orders or positions. He pointed to the tree at the bottom of the house and ordered one of them to stand behind the tree, ready to pop out if any action ensured. Next he asked the second and the third man to, even how much he didn't like it go into trenches. '' I don't want you to even pop up a muscle stay in and out of the view from all time, if you here gun fire or any commotion, I need you both to take them by surprise. Wait for further orders. '' He gave a blank expression with determination in his eyes, making them speak for themselves as he finished giving them the final orders. He beckoned to the final soldier to come into the house. He never liked to feel exposed. He set up a post himself and the other looking outside the house with the men already posted there with one man on each window hoisting a gun on the window sill and waiting for anyone to come into their sights. He warned them about their own patrols as he slowly calmed himself down from all the orders, clearing his mind. ___________________________________________

Daniel was pretty certain that Germans lurked behind the fog, but he could not see them. "Alright he said to two of his men (the one inside the northeast corner of the building, and the one in the northwest corner), crawl up north to those two trees." "Wilkor, you are right, there shouldn't be as many men inside the house, and we need to make a move." Daniel walked outside and said to the men in the south to leapfrog up; the two in the foxhole to get behind the two trees in front of them, but not past where the trench was, and the two behind them to move into the foxhole. Daniel walked north to the northeast corner of the building on the outside and told the man there to crawl into the foxhole just above the trench while everybody else covered him.
Daniel himself took up position on the same corner of the building outside with the detonator in his armpit to keep somewhat dry and easy to get to. "now we see what happens."
